In this age of videos, Snapchats and Facebook lives, we have become accustomed to hearing of videos that go viral. It is interesting how quickly these videos catch on. I am of the opinion that the same thing can occur in our cultures. In fact, i believe that a similar commitment to excellence can also go viral within our organizations.
My simple definition of Excellence is being and doing my best and not settling for anything less than my very best. It is my desire as a leader that this mindset goes viral in the organizations that I lead.
In order to ensure that excellence goes viral in your organization I encourage you to focus on the following two areas.
Personal Development
As a leader, we must invest in our own personal development. As a leader, we must focus on being our very best. I encourage you as a leader to spend some part of each day reading material, watching videos, listening to audiobooks that will make you the most effective version of yourself. This focus on self-improvement and personal development has a way of becoming contagious.
Professional Development
Closely connected to personal development is professional development. As leaders, continuing education is our life line. It is often said that leaders are readers. I like to say that leaders are life-long learners. In fact, it would behoove the wise leader to ensure that others in the organization or on the team are investing in their professional development. I believe this should occur every day. If you are a speaker, we should be speaking every day. Again, this mindset and disposition has the potential to become contagious.
This certainly is not exhaustive but I believe if we commit ourselves and our organizations to just these two principles, we discover that excellence will be the norm and not the exception within our organizations.
