USING OUR WORDS WISELY

Scripture: Kind words are like honey-sweet to the soul and healthy for the body. (Prov. 16: 24 NLT)

Observation: I have learned in life that the cliche “sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me” is far from true. I have learned that words do hurt and often linger long after a bone would have healed. In fact, I have learned through experience and observation that words can impact a person for a lifetime.

Words can have a profound impact and therefore must be handled responsibly. Words have the power to encourage or discourage. Words have the power to build up or tear down. They even have the power to affirm or negate.

In light of that fact, this passage reminds us that kind words are like honey-sweet for the soul and healthy for the body. Therefore today choose your words wisely and commit to using them to be a blessing.

Affirmation: I will choose my words wisely today and am committed to using my words to be a blessing.

Prayer: Lord I ask that you would strengthen me today to speak life and not death. Wholeness and not brokenness as well as grace and not condemnation. Grant, now I pray, an attentiveness to my speech which will edify those I encounter and glorify you. Amen.

Live Abundantly,
