BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO…

7 “But blessed are those who trust in the Lord
and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.
8 They are like trees planted along a riverbank,
with roots that reach deep into the water.
Such trees are not bothered by the heat
or worried by long months of drought.
Their leaves stay green,
and they never stop producing fruit.

OBSERVATION:

This text suggests that those who put their hope, confidence and trust in the Lord are blessed. Jeremiah reminds us that just as the Psalmist declares in Psalm 1 that such a person will be like trees planted by a riverbank with roots that reach deep into the water. And although difficulties arise and challenges come the one who places their hope, confidence and trust in the Lord will not only withstand the moments of adversity but will actually continue to produce fruits consistent with one who is anchored in the Lord.

APPLICATION:

We all face moments that challenge our faith and threaten our faith walk but this text encourages us to keep our hope, confidence and trust in the Lord. It also reminds us that there will be seasons in our lives where we face conditions and circumstances that have the potential to leave us spiritually depleted and emotionally drained.

PRAYER:

Lord, I pray that you will bless me with the wisdom and strength to continue to place my hope, confidence and trust in you. Lord, help me to face those circumstances and situations that threaten my faith in you with the assurance that if I trust in YOU I will be like a tree planted by waters with my roots of faith deeply rooted in YOU. In your name, I pray, Amen.
